MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin’s Bettie Graham Special Education Seminar will feature motivational speakers H.K. Derryberry and Jim Bradford at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 23, in the Boling University Center’s Watkins Auditorium.
The event is free, but tickets are necessary and available now.
Derryberry is blind and lives with cerebral palsy after a car accident in 1990 resulted in his premature birth and other health conditions. He also has hyperthymesia, also known as superior autobiographical memory, and can recall every event that has happened to him. He is the subject of the book “The Awakening of H.K. Derryberry,” copies of which will be available for purchase at the event.
Bradford, a businessman from Brentwood, met Derryberry when the latter was nine years old, and the two have been friends ever since. The pair has made more than 175 appearances and spoken to more than 40,000 people since 2012.
Tickets for this event are free of charge, but attendees must have a printed ticket to reserve a seat in the auditorium. Seating is limited to the first 450 people who register online. Tickets are available through Eventbrite.com by searching “H.K. Derryberry” in Martin.
This seminar series is hosted by the UT Martin College of Education, Health and Behavioral Sciences and made possible by Newell and Bettie Graham, who own and operate the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. in Union City. Bettie dedicated years of service to northwest Tennessee and the University of Tennessee at Martin.
