With a collection of their best times of the season, the Union City High School boys’ cross country team claimed runner-up honors in their own Golden Tornado Invitational Thursday at Graham Park.
UC totaled 40 points in all and recorded four Top 10 finishes on a sweltering afternoon that saw a half-dozen teams participate in the event.
Dalton Bone placed third overall with a time of 18:02. BJ Frankum was just a few seconds behind his teammate at 18:10, good for fifth place.
Matthew Parr came in sixth, clocked at 18:26, and Cedrion Cook placed eighth with a time of 19:31.
Also turning in good showings for the Purple and Gold were Taylor Pickering (21st place, 21:12); Reice Gray (27th place, 23:29:); Cameron McLendon (32nd place, 24:19); and Quailvarious Brown (36th place, 26:37).
For the Union City girls, Katelyn Edmond had the best showing, medaling with a personal best time of 24:37 that was good for 11th place overall.
Lizzy Jones finished 25th, Emilia Maldonado was 35th and Natalie Johnson 37th for the Lady Tornadoes.
Union City will next be in action Tuesday at Milan.
