Union City, Tenn.–Most everyone loves a good murder-mystery.
Throw in dinner, and you have a perfect night.
The Union City High School Drama Club will present a two-act Dinner Theatre Murder-Mystery performance Monday and Tuesday evenings at 5:30 at the Venue at Center Point in Union City.
“Did Someone Say Murder?” will feature a cast of 16 UCHS Drama Club members.
“It’s something new we’re trying and the kids are really excited,” Union City School System theater and drama teacher Allison Butner said. “Personally, I love a good murder-mystery and our students were really excited when I ran the idea by them and they had a chance to read the script.
“The play reminds me of the movie ‘Clue.’ The kids really liked it right off the bat, and they have chances to develop every character. It’s something they’ve really worked hard and diligently at.”
Butner chose the cast from her list of students, which varies in numbers. She says the group has had to fit practice times in and around other school activities, often getting together at night and on the weekends – sometimes as much as 10 to 15 hours a week.
“I have a great group of seniors. In fact, two of them are planning on majoring in theater in college,” the teacher said.
“Naturally, they were the ones who were all in when I first presented this idea.”
The Drama Club normally presents two performances a year – one, a big musical in December, the other in the spring. They could do three this year.
Students in the UC School System can now get an arts credit for participating, taking it as an extracurricular course.
Tickets for next week’s performances and meals have gone rapidly and are $15 for adults and $10 for students. A group discount is available and a table of six can be reserved for $85. Tables of eight can be had for $100.
