Pumpkin Village Opens At Discovery Park

Union City, Tenn.-    Pumpkins, pumpkins everywhere!  The 2018 version of McDonald’s Pumpkin Village is now open at Discovery Park of America in Union City.  This year McDonald’s Pumpkin Village is located in the Settlement, with hundreds of pumpkins, gourds and hay structures displayed throughout the settlement.  McDonald’s Pumpkin Village is designed and created by the Discovery Park of America grounds crew.  A new addition this year is a giant hay bale maze designed as a children’s play area.
Pumpkin Village kicks off a month that is full of activities and fun things to do at Discovery Park!  Many area schools are having Fall Break, so the park is running a fall break special.  All students will enjoy $2.00 off general admission Tuesday through Friday each week throughout the month of October.  There’s a featured exhibit open at the park called Thomas and Friends Ride the Rails, featuring a giant Thomas and friend’s railway that inspires hours of free play for children ages 2 through 7.  TOYS: 100 Years of Fun is a special exhibit created by the Discovery Park crew that is very nostalgic and interesting for kids of all ages!  It is included in the $5.00 featured exhibit price.
Also on Saturday, October 6th, the park is hosting “Beer, Blues and Brats,” with over 50 craft beers available to taste as well as a special area featuring home brews by the West Tennessee Home Brewers Association.  General admission tickets are just $10, with gates opening at 6:30.  There will also be delicious brats, all beef hot dogs, BBQ and ribs available for purchase.  The Ghost Town Blues Band from Memphis will provide excellent entertainment.  “We are encouraging people to bring their bag chairs or blankets and come spend the evening enjoying great music, delicious food and more beer than they can possibly taste in one night,” Event Director Lauren Jones said.
On October 13th, there’s a Family Education Series class called, “Vampires,” and on October 14th there’s Pumpkin Painting in the Settlement from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m.  This activity comes complete with pumpkins and all supplies and it is free with park admission.  The children can take their pumpkin home with them.  And, then, all children ages 12 and under who come out in costume to compete in the Halloween Costume Contest will enjoy free admission on October 29th.
CEO Jim Rippy said that he hopes people from near and far will enjoy the beautiful fall weather and fun events and activities at Discovery Park this October.  “We especially want to invite our senior groups to come back out now that we have added trollies to help people get around the park,” he added.
