Memorial Marker At Former Henry County Home To Be Dedicated Sunday

Paris, Tenn.—The dedication ceremony for the memorial marker that has been erected at the site of the former Henry County Home will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 7.

The marker memorializes the many county home residents who are buried in the cemetery without markers or headstones.

At the request of County Mayor Brent Greer, a committee of Stephanie Tayloe, Susan Stewart, and Melissa Key performed extensive research and found the names of 58 County Home residents who are buried there. They used death information, obituaries and McEvoy Funeral Home books. Many hundreds are buried there, their names unknown.

The dedication ceremony will honor their lives and deaths. Efforts to spotlight the cemetery were initiated by two private citizens, Reed Shepherd and Dillard Castleberry, who began clearing brush at the site and erected a white cross to mark it.
The ceremony will be held on County Home Road off of the 218 bypass, next to the National Guard Armory, 285 County Home Road. Parking in the National Guard Armory on far right.
