By Shannon McFarlin WENK/WTPR News Director
Indian Mound, Tenn.—The manhunt continues for homicide suspect Kirby Wallace in Stewart County, as dozens of law enforcement and K9s continue their search near the Indian Mound area.
Wallace is wanted for the recent home invasions in Stewart and Montgomery Counties which resulted in the homicide of one of his victims, Brenda Smith, and injuries to two other victims. The Stewart County homicide was in Indian Mound last Sunday and Wallace reportedly returned to that area Saturday morning, crashing a car and setting out on foot in the area of Honey Fork Rd. and Seven Mile Ridge Road.
Stewart County Sheriff Frankie Gray continues to caution the people of the Indian Mound area to remain vigilant, keep their doors locked and stay inside their homes.
A Memorial Service will be held for family and friends of Brenda Smith at Cross Creek Baptist Church at 6 p.m. Monday, with a meal after the service.
A group called Wives of Stewart County Law Enforcement held a collection Sunday afternoon of drinks, food and protein snacks for the officers who have been working around the clock in the search.
The search continued all day Saturday and overnight and on Sunday afternoon a witness told law enforcement they saw Wallace in an abandoned house on Rooster Street in Indian Mound. Law enforcement swarmed the area but still have not found him.
Among the law enforcement officers joining the search were Henry Co. Sheriff’s Sgt. Wayne Fuqua and his bloodhound Cisco, who were tracking Wallace for several hours Saturday.
According to earlier reports by Stewart Co. Sheriff Public Information Officer Paulette Redmon, Wallace was last seen wearing blue jeans with a dark blue or gray jacket.
Wallace is considered armed and dangerous. If anyone sees him, Gray has cautioned the public not to approach him, but to immediately call 911.
As reported by WENK/WTPR over the past several days, Wallace is charged with the murder of Brenda Smith and injuries to her husband during a home invasion last Sunday. Wallace set fire to their home after he was surprised in the process of burglarizing them. He also is charged with another violent home invasion in Montgomery Co. in which he injured an elderly woman and stole her car late in the week.
Wallace was added to the TBI’s Top 10 Most Wanted on Friday.
