AT&T Donates $3,000 To Paris TCAT

Paris, Tenn.–As part of AT&T’s continuing commitment to supporting quality education across Tennessee, the company has donated $3,000 to the Tennessee College of Applied Technology in Paris. The contribution will provide for the purchase of wireless networking equipment which will help support training for high-skill jobs requiring technology-based skills throughout Tennessee.

“We are thrilled that AT&T is investing in our students and has recognized that our technical programs bring industry and employment opportunities directly to graduates right here in our own community,” said Dr. Brad White, President, Tennessee College of Applied Technology – Paris.    “Creating and maintaining a workforce that is ready to meet the needs of our region is critically important and the training supported by this contribution will better equip graduates for success as they begin their careers.”

This donation is part of AT&T’s $81,000 gift to the Tennessee Board of Regents.  Funding will provide 26 TCATs up to $3,000 to purchase new wireless networking setups used to teach infrastructure design, security and planning, and to practice implementing and protecting networks and operating plans. As a result, students will have expanded opportunities to learn the skills they need for careers in information technology fields. The TCAT-Paris plans to use the funds for wireless access points, firewalls, and switches for the classroom and lab. These will be used to teach the students about set up and maintenance.

“To meet the needs of our ever-growing economy, Tennessee’s institutions of higher education must ensure new entrants to the workforce are prepared and obtain the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to succeed in a modern workplace,” said State Senator John Stevens. “Through programs like those offered at the Paris College of Applied Technology, pathways are created for non-traditional students to gain these skills, benefiting all Tennesseans.”

“Through AT&T Aspire, we are focused on developing a 21st century workforce that can promote continued prosperity and a stronger economy across Tennessee,” said AT&T Tennessee Director of External and Legislative Affairs Dennis Wagner. “We are excited to continue our support for the TCATs to help more students gain the high-demand skills necessary to compete for quality job opportunities and to empower more students to reach their highest potential.”
