Union City, Tenn.–Safety first.
Union City Schools Bus Transportation Supervisor Chuck Reedy Wednesday put elementary students through a state-mandated bus evacuation drill that ensures students know the proper procedure to exit buses in the event of an emergency.
All eight bus routes at Union City Elementary School went through the process that stressed to the children a sense of urgency in case of an emergency while remaining calm and orderly.
Students had a goal of three minutes to exit the bus and congregate in a safe distance away from the bus in the event of the simulated emergency.
UCES Principal Rene Flood and school resource officers Raphe Whaley and Stephanie Marshall, along with Reedy, bus driver Andy Worrell and several teachers, also participated in the exercise.
Reedy deemed the drill a success afterward.
“The students listened to instructions they were given and they followed directions perfectly,” he said.
Reedy added that the drill is practiced on a semi-annual basis, per state regulations.
