Buchanan, Tenn.–The Bomb Squad is sending in a robot to check out the suspicious package at the Security Bank branch on Hwy. 79N.
As of noon, traffic has been stopped on the highway and spectators across the highway have been asked to leave that area. A Henry Co. ambulance is stationed at the Dollar General Store across the highway and motorists on Antioch Rd. are being kept from entering Hwy. 79N.
The bomb squad arrived from Jackson around 11 a.m. with an escort from sheriff’s cruisers.
The suspicious package was found earlier this morning by an employee when they were opening up the branch for work.
Henry Co. Sheriff Monte Belew is on the scene and the entire mall area where the bank is located has been secured.
A heavy presence of law enforcement is on the scene, including the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Chief Deputy Damon Lowe told WENK/WTPR earlier this morning that the bank will remain closed until the area is cleared by the bomb squad.
