Union City, Tenn.—A Union City man was arrested after he threatened his neighbors with a shotgun Sunday afternoon.

James Courtney, age 31, of 704 S. Third St., was charged by Union City Police with aggravated assault. After his arrest, police determined he had been convicted of aggravated assault and illegal possession of a firearm in Jackson in 2001.

According to the report, Courtney began cussing and yelling at his neighbors and then went back in the house and came out with a shotgun, walking toward them and yelling at them. Courtney was stopped by a neighbor and took the gun back in the house, but came back outside and continued yelling.

When police arrived, they asked Courtney where the gun was and found it behind the couch. It was a Mossberg 12 guage shotgun with three live shells.
