Buchanan, Tenn.—A warrant has been issued for a Buchanan woman on several charges after a pursuit Friday that resulted in her crashing her car into a tree and running from the accident scene with her passenger. The car burst into flames, destroying the car.
Henry County Sheriff’s Deputy Lt. Lance Perry issued a warrant for Lacey Day, age 20, of 5520 Rabbit Creek Rd., on charges of evading arrest, reckless endangerment, and driving on a suspended license. Perry told WENK/WTPR that once the passenger is identified, charges may be filed against her, too.
The incident began Friday morning when Perry noticed Day driving near the Hwy. 79N/East Antioch Rd. intersection. Perry knew Day’s license had been suspended and pulled out behind her in order to conduct a traffic stop. Perry saw a blonde passenger in the car with her.
At that point, Day accelerated to 86 mph in a 65 mph zone and Perry advised the dispatcher that she was running from him. According to Perry’s report, Day abruptly turned off onto Hwy. 140 in the westbound lane and then turned back east driving against traffic, causing several vehicles to veer to the side to avoid a collision with her.
She then turned onto Point Pleasant Rd. and Perry notified dispatch he was discontinuing the pursuit due to the risk to others.
Deputy Frankie Scott met up with Perry at this point and they decided to check at Day’s family’s house on Rabbit Creek Rd. to see if they had seen her. Her family said no.
According to Perry’s report, Scott noticed black tire marks on the ground and about the same time, they saw smoke coming from behind the house. A family member, Scott and Perry went to investigate and found the car had crashed into a tree and was engulfed in flames. Neither Day or her passenger could be found at the scene.
The Paris Landing Volunteer Fire Department responded and extinguished the blaze. A report on the fire was published on our website Friday.
