Union City, Tenn.—This morning’s fire at the popular Hops & Barley Restaurant in Union City started in the kitchen, but its cause has still not been determined.
Union City Fire Captain Tim Hopper said the cause is under investigation. Hopper said, “The insurance company probably will call it a total loss. There is a lot of smoke and water damage throughout the restaurant and the kitchen and the area around the kitchen was completely destroyed.”
The first call was received by the fire department at 8:48 a.m. today, he said.
No one was hurt in the fire. “The restaurant wasn’t open yet and nobody was inside the building when it started,” he said.
Aid was received at the scene by the South Fulton and Rives Fire Departments, with whom Union City has automatic mutual aid, he said.
