Union City, Tenn.–The popular Hops & Barley restaurant in Union City appears to be a total loss from a fire this morning.
Union City Firefighters called for mutual aid from other fire departments, including the Kenton, with personnel from South Fulton also called to the scene.
According to Norman Lee at the Jerry Ward Autoplex on Reelfoot Ave., they noticed black smoke coming from Hops & Barley around 8:40 a.m. and called 911. He said fire began to appear quickly from the side of the building and soon black smoke was coming from one end of the building to the other end. Jerry Ward Autoplex is located behind Hops & Barley.
Lee said the fire department was able to quickly extinguish the blaze. “They had it out by 9:30 a.m., but it looks like a total loss to me.”
The Union City Fire personnel were still on the scene and unavailable for comment. More information on the fire will be reported as it is available.
