Cause Of Cottage Grove House Fire Still Being Investigated

Cottage Grove, Tenn.—Cottage Grove Volunteer Fire Department Chief John Weiher said Thursday afternoon that the fire which destroyed a home on Cowell Road last night is still under investigation.

“We have no idea right now what caused it,” he said.

The one-story ranch-style home was owned by Raymond Gendron and the family was not at home at the time of the fire, Weiher said. “One part of the family was camping in the LBL and another was in Michigan. No one was home when it started.”

The local Red Cross began providing help to the family almost immediately, he said.

The family dog was saved from the fire, Weiher said. “He was sitting up against the house and we moved him to safety.”

As we reported earlier, the property at 155 Cowell Rd. was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at 7:15 p.m. Mutual aid was provided by the Paris Fire Department. The fire rekindled early Thursday morning and was again extinguished.
