The Union City football team’s trip to New Jersey and the 34th annual Union City Band Invitational highlight this week’s extracurricular events in the UC School System.
The Golden Tornadoes will depart by charter Tuesday night for the 13-hour trip to Carneys Point, where they will play unbeaten Penns Grove High School Friday night at 5:30 local time.
UC’s travel party will tour New York City Thursday and nearby Philadelphia Friday morning. The team and cheerleaders will begin its journey home Saturday morning, arriving in town late that evening.
A capacity crowd is again expected at War Memorial Stadium Saturday night when the Union City band hosts its annual competition.
Twelve bands from four different states have committed to participate.
The event is scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m., with the final awards ceremony slated for around 9:30 p.m.
UC will perform in exhibition-only around 1:30, according to band director Jason Deem.
Also this week, the UC Middle School softball team will celebrate Eighth Grade Night with its final home game Tuesday at Graham Park against Lake County.
