Paris, Tenn.—An autopsy has verified that the body found in Kentucky Lake in April was that of Melissa Crane of Paris, who had been missing since March of 2016.
Paris Police Captain Ricky Watson said the police department is saddened to receive the results of the autopsy. The department had hoped that Mrs. Cane would have been located safe and unharmed, he said.
Watson said no foul play was indicated and the case is now officially closed.
Mrs. Crane was reported missing by her son on March 3, 2016. A body was located in a vehicle that was recovered in the Gray’s Landing area near the Ned McWherter Bridge on April 11 of this year.
The Stewart Co. Sheriff’s Office had been called to the scene and found the vehicle located approximately 40 feet off the shoreline, submerged in some 9-10 feet of water.
Watson recalled that the vehicle was located when a fisherman spotted it on his side scan fish finder.
Officers from the Paris Police were called to the scene after divers from Montgomery Co. had located a body inside of the vehicle. Watson said once the vehicle was pulled from the water, it was discovered that the vehicle belonged to Mrs. Crane.
Her body was sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Nashville for the autopsy and positive identification.
