Erin, Tenn.—There’s one dog that is especially thankful for the Erin Volunteer Fire Department today after he was rescued from high water this morning.

Fire Chief Danny Warren said the German Shepherd had become trapped between a large tree root and a limestone ledge. “We’ve had heavy rains here the last few days and he had just gotten washed up somehow in this high water. He was stuck there and a patron of one of our local businesses heard him whimpering and walked over to check and saw what was happening.”
Warren said, “He’s an older dog and he was just exhausted and water logged. We had to cut a lot of brush before we could get to him.”

Warren, Deputy Chief Stanley and others extricated the dog, placed him on a stretcher and transported him to the Houston Co. Animal Clinic. “He was sure glad to see us,” Warren said. “He was one of our better patients.”

Warren said he believed the dog will be o.k. “He was suffering from fatigue. When we took him to the vet, he just laid out on their table and seemed happy to be there.”

The rescue occurred at the intersection of West Main and Arlington Streets.
