Henry Co. Couple Arrested On Drugs, Weapon, Theft Charges

Paris, Tenn.—A Henry County couple were arrested on drug and weapons charges Wednesday by the Metro Crime Unit and Paris Police. They were also charged with theft since the weapon found in their possession was stolen.
Arrested were: Garrete Evans, age 19, of 1175 641N, and Shaylah Willis, age 19, of 150 McGehee Lane, Springville. Both were charged with possession of Ecstasy and marijuana with intent to sell, unlawful drug paraphernalia, theft of property, and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
According to Paris Police Investigator Jeramye Whitaker, he and Investigator Derrek Colley, Paris Police officers and members of the Metro Crime Unit went to 1175 Hwy. 641S, Apartment B-4, in reference to a wanted person and drug activity.
Whitaker said Evans answered the door and he immediately smelled the odor of marijuana. Evans denied that the wanted person was inside the residence and Whitaker then asked about the odor.
Whitaker said Evans then pulled a plastic bag out of his pants pocket which contained some 7 grams of marijuana and handed it to him. Whitaker then asked for consent to search and Evans agreed.
Shaylah Willis told officers she also was living there and during the search, Whitaker located a bag and jar above the stove that contained marijuana. He then located a set of digital scales under the microwave, a loaded Hi-Point, 9 mm, semi-auto handgun in a bottom kitchen cabinet, along with a safe.
Whitaker said he could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the safe and Evans gave consent to open it. Evans put in the code, opened the safe and inside were seven one-ounce bags of marijuana. Ten pills that tested positive for Ecstasy were located inside a cookie jar.
Whitaker said he ran the serial number on the gun “and it came back stolen” from Thomas Paschall in Paris on September 20, 2014, during a burglary.
The drugs are being sent to the TBI Crime Lab.
Bond for Evans was set at $50,000 and bond for Willis was set at $30,000.
