TWRA Issues Warning As Boaters Seriously Injured, Juveniles Critically Injured

The TWRA is investigating a boating accident on the Tennessee River Saturday in which two occupants were seriously injured. In a separate accident, juveniles were critically injured in an inner tube accident.
Numerous other accidents have occurred on Tennessee’s waterways this Labor Day weekend and the TWRA is cautioning everyone to stay safe on the water.
According to the TWRA press release, an 18-foot boat with two occupants struck a large oak tree. It was originally believed the accident occurred across the county line in Decatur Co.
The TWRA has released the names of the victims: Windall Sanders, age 48, of Lawrenceburg; and Kimberly Sanders, age 47, of Jackson. Both were airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center.
Officers say around 8:30 p.m., a 2002 18-foot Ebbtide pleasure boat operated by Windall Sanders, was traveling Northbound near the river bank around mile marker 139. The boat struck a large oak tree that had fallen into the water.
Meanwhile, two juveniles were critically injured and another seriously injured in an inner tube accident.
An inner tube containing three juveniles being towed behind a PWC struck a pier on Pole Cat Bridge bear Hwy 72 Boat Ramp on Watts Bar Reservoir in Loudon Co. A 12 and a 13 year-old were airlifted to UT Medical Center in critical condition and the other has been transported by ambulance.
