As the Labor Day holiday weekend is underway, boat collisions on area waterways serve as a reminder for boaters to be careful.
The Marshall County Rescue Squad was paged out for a two boat collision with injuries on Kentucky Lake Saturday.
According to the Rescue Squad’s Facebook post, while responding they were informed both boats were able to return to the marina “so we continued our response to assist with medical until EMS arrived on the scene. Two patients were transported to hospital with minor injuries.”
Assisting agencies were Kentucky Fish and Wildlife, Marshall County EMS, East Marshall Fire Department and the Marshall Co. dispatchers, who handled all the scanner traffic.
Meanwhile, on the Tennessee River in Decatur County, two victims were airlifted when the boat on which they were riding struck a tree that was leaning over the river.
According to the Tennessee River Valley News, early reports indicated that multiple boats had collided, but once rescue crews arrived they found only one boat involved.
The collision occurred near Fishers Landing.
Sheriff Keith Byrd told The Tennessee River Valley News that alcohol appeared to be involved in the accident.
