Frankum, Bone Medal For Golden Tornado Cross Country

Both BJ Frankum and Dalton Bone continued their string of strong performances for the Union City High School cross country team Tuesday with high finishes at Westview.
 
Frankum placed 10th at the Martin meet with a time of 20:05. Bone came in 14th place, clocked at 20:20.
 
Katelyn Edmond recorded the UC girls’ fastest time at 31:51.
 
Union City will next participate at Trenton next Thursday.
 
UC volleyball teams win
Against Trenton Peabody
 
Both Union City High School volleyball teams recorded triumphs Tuesday, the jayvee beating Trenton 2-1, and the varsity improving to 5-2 by topping the Tide 3-1.
 
The Lady Tornadoes’ jayvee squad won the deciding game 15-13 after taking Game 1, 25-11, but falling in Game 2, 25-16.
 
Aubree Keeling and Erin Oatsvall were big in the assists department with 21 and 15, respectively, while Sara Ullrich had eight aces.
 
Union City won 25-12 and 25-22 in the first two games of the varsity match, then rallied to take Game 4 25-20 after Peabody claimed a 25-19 triumph in the third game.
 
JyRese Thompson had 11 serves while teammate Endia Dowell had nine aces on 19 serves. Sanaa Davis was credited with seven hits, while Dowell had 10.
 
Dowell, Ashley Kate Cooley and Sailor Bearden provided the winners with great defensive coverage.
 
Union City will look to avenge one of its two losses Thursday, playing at South Gibson County.
 
UCMS softball drops rematch
With Dresden on road
 
Union City couldn’t duplicate an earlier victory over Dresden, falling short 5-3 Tuesday in a middle school softball second meeting with the Lions.
 
Sixth-grader Kennedi Robinson had a stellar all-around performance for the Lady Tornadoes, scoring two of UC’s three runs and also recording three assists defensively.
 
Emma Powell was the losing hurler.
 
Union City is now 2-3 and won’t play again until next week when it hosts  Martin.

Home opening football game
 
Two fourth-quarter touchdowns were not enough as Union City Middle School fell 32-16 to visiting Medina in middle school football Tuesday night at War Memorial Stadium.
 
Durell Littleton had a 75-yard touchdown run and a two-point conversion scamper, finishing with 117 total yards in all.
 
Jacob Arnold found the endzone from 15 yards out and also tacked on a two-point play for the Twisters. Arnold finished with 55 total yards of offense.
 
Defensively, Jystacye Pitts and Trystan Smothers had three tackles apiece.
 
UC will continue to search for its first win next week, hosting Paris Inman on Thursday night.
