Long-Time Community Leader Bill “Rat” Harrison Passes Away

 
Union City, Tenn.—Long-time Union City community leader Bill “Rat” Harrison died this morning at his home.
Harrison, age 86, was a long-time member of the Union City City Council, Union City School Board and a wealth of other organizations, including the Rotary, Chimes for Charity, Jaycees, Red Cross and more. He was the 2013 Pride of Obion County.
Mayor Terry Hailey said in a statement, “Sorry to hear of the passing of Bill “Rat” Harrison this morning. He served the City of Union City with dedication on both the council and school board. His larger than life presence will be missed by all who knew him. I don’t know that anyone has ever promoted Union City with more passion.”
Accolades for Harrison and his leadership were pouring in this morning, including the people at Union City Sports Turf, who said, “Everyone involved with the UC Sports Turf dept would like to send our heartfelt condolences to the family of Bill “Rat” Harrison. He was a friend & supporter of everything we have accomplished since the department formed in 2005. His love of baseball & the Graham Park complex will be always be part of his legacy. RIP Bill “Rat” Harrison.”
Funeral arrangements at White Ranson Funeral Home are incomplete and a full obituary will be published later.
