Paris, Tenn.—A home at 170 Smith Heights Rd. in Paris was destroyed by fire last night, but everyone—including the family pets—escaped injury.
However, one Paris Firefighter was transported by Henry Co. EMS to the emergency room at Henry County Medical Center after he became overheated. After treatment, he was able to return to work in a short amount of time.
Firefighters arrived at the scene around 7 p.m. to find smoke and fire visible from the attached garage. Crews began an exterior attack on the garage and basement and when possible, they changed to an interior attack on the fire.
The Puryear Fire Department responded to the request for mutual aid with water and manpower. The Paris Board of Utilities and Natural Gas company responded for assistance with the utilities.
The home is owned by Jerry Moody.
Firefighters said the Moody family was at home when the fire began and were able to escape with their pets. According to the report, the occupant said a short time after leaving the garage and basement, he saw smoke coming from that area.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Property is listed at $137,000, with contents at $50,000.
