Springville, Tenn.–The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announces a temporary closure this weekend for the refuge Visitor Center which is normally open Monday – Saturday from 8 a.m. – 4 pm.
The center will be closed this Saturday, August 25, due to a staffing shortage. The Visitor Center will reopen Monday August 27th for normal hours. Refuge officials said, “We sincerely regret the inconvenience to the public.”
Staff recommends the Hummingbird Banding Event held this Saturday, August 25th from 8– 12 pm at Cross Creeks National Wildlife Refuge located at 643 Wildlife Road in Dover. Master bander Cyndi Routledge of Southeastern Avian Research will be on hand to conduct a hummingbird banding all morning with children’s crafts and activities ongoing. A program on hummingbirds will be given at 12 pm. The Friends of Cross Creeks NWR will host the event selling nature book store items including hats and t-shirts. They will also have hot dog lunches for sale on the back patio.
