Lyon County, Ky.—Kentucky Fish and Wildlife, Kentucky State Parks and the TVA have partnered to provide a huge ice machine and freezer to be used specifically for commercial Asian Carp fishermen who are helping to eradicate Asian Carp from local waters.

Ron Brooks with the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife announced his agency has spent over $200,000 for a seven-ton-a-day flake ice machine and freezer that is specifically for the commercial fishermen.

The TVA donated $5,000 to help with electricity costs and Kentucky State Parks allowed use of their land for the project.

According to Lyon County Judge Executive Wade White, the free ice is available to commercial fishermen targeting Asian Carp in Kentucky and Barkley Lakes and is an incentive to get more fishermen working the two reservoirs.

White told WENK/WTPR Friday morning that the ice machine is located at Kentucky Dam.

He said the machine produces enough ice each day to cool 70,000 pounds of Asian carp harvested for the processors.

White said, “I appreciate seeing action and cooperation to make it easier for our commercial fishermen targeting these silver and big head carp.”
