Discovery Park Eating Contests Saturday: Pizza, Dippin' Dots, Spaghetti And More

Union City, Tenn.-     Discovery Park of America will be giving away six annual membership passes to the park on Saturday, August 11th at its first “Food Fest Contest” challenge.  “It’s time to have a little fun,” said Event Director, Lauren Jones.  “If you like to compete, if you like to watch people acting crazy, or if you would really like to win a free membership…mark your calendar to come out on August 11th and join in the craziest food eating contest you can imagine!”
Guests who wish to participate in the one of the food eating contests need to arrive early to have time to register.  Individuals of any age can register to participate in one or all of the contests, however, actual participation will be limited to one contest per person.  The ten actual participants for each food challenge will be chosen by a random drawing from the registration box for each category.
Registration will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until the time of the drawing.  In each category, ten names will be drawn for the competition.  “We’ll have an emcee and music….we think this will be a fun, lively event,” Jones explained.  “To get an idea of what the challenges will be like, people can use Google on their phone to watch a “donut challenge video. We think it will be one of the funniest challenges of the day”.
Depending on the weather, organizers are planning to have the event on the Great Lawn under a big tent.  However, if it is unbearably hot or raining, it will be moved inside.  Here’s the schedule for the day:
10:00 a.m. – Registration begins for all contests
11:00 a.m. – Dippin Dots eating contest (no hands allowed!)
11:30 a.m. – Tasty whipped-cream-pie challenge (no hands allowed here, either!)
12:00 p.m. – Pizza eating contest (who can eat a given amount of pizza the fastest?)
12:30 p.m. – Spaghetti challenge (who can eat a pile of spaghetti the fastest?)
1:00 p.m. – Corn on the Cob sound good?  (You can use your hands on this one!)
1:30 p.m. – Donuts hanging on a string taste just a good…if you can catch them! (Sure to be the funniest!)
“We think that the “Food Fest Contests” will be fun for the participants, and fun to observe,” Jones said.  Members can participate or watch for free, and we are making all other general admission tickets just $10.00 on August 11th,” she added.
