Paris, Tenn.—A Paris man was killed in a one-vehicle accident in front of Service Rental on E. Wood Street Wednesday afternoon.
Jimmy Sanford, age 70, of Blythe Street, Paris, was trapped for an hour in his vehicle and was extricated by Paris Fire Department, Henry County EMS and Rescue Squad.
Sanford was driving a 1999 Ford F15 pickup truck and hauling a boat when he collided into three pieces of equipment at Service Rental.
Paris Police Chief Chuck Elizondo told WENK/WTPR Thursday morning it is believed that a medical emergency suffered by Sanford caused the accident.
Elizondo said Sanford was driving inbound from the lake when he crossed the lanes to the left and crashed into the equipment at Service Rental. The boat flew onto the top of the cab of the truck.
The County Coroner was called to the scene, where Sanford was pronounced deceased.
Elizondo said Lt. Tony Elkins was in charge of the scene, with Captain Ricky Watson assisting, along with Paris Police officers and Henry County Sheriff’s deputies.
Elizondo said officers had a difficult time controlling traffic around the accident so that emergency personnel could extricate the victim. Scanner traffic indicated numerous drivers were going through the detour at Lakeway Circle and coming back through the accident scene.
