Huntingdon, Tenn.—Political Newcomer Joseph Butler handily defeated long-time Carroll County Mayor Kenny McBride, according to the unofficial final totals.
Butler defeated McBride by a vote of 3,914-1,983. Butler is a Republican and McBride was running as an Independent.
The sagging Carroll County economy and the closure of McKenzie Regional Hospital last week were major issues for McBride.
In another contested county race, long-time Circuit Court Clerk Bertha Taylor was defeated by Sarah Bradberry. Democrat taylor posted 2,396 votes, with winner Bradberry, a Republican, posting 2,845. Tracie McCormick, Independent, posted 687.
