Union City football teams
To scrimmage at home Thursday
Both the Union City High School and UCMS football teams will scrimmage Thursday afternoon at home.
The varsity Tornadoes will welcome Class 5A Munford, while the Jr. Twisters host Northview.
The high school scrimmage is set to start at 3:30 and middle school action will begin at 5 p.m.
UC’s middle school team will then participate in the Obion County Jr. High Jamboree Saturday night at OCCHS.
The Purple and Gold jayvee team will face off against Three Oaks at 6:10, with the A-team to play Lake Road at 6:50.
All Union City players and coaches have tickets to the event available to be purchased. The tickets are $5 each and UCMS keeps all proceeds from the pre-game sales.

Tornado trio honored
For academic standings
Three Union City High School football players have been named to the murphyfair.com Academic All State team.
UC seniors Conner Hurt, Kaylon McClendon and Conner Terrell were recognized for their classroom work in the annual edition of Fair’s widely acclaimed pre-season prep football magazine that has been published for more than 30 years.
The accolade is reserved for those rising seniors have posted a 3.25 grade point average in their first five semesters of high school.
The Golden Tornadoes, the reigning Class 2A state champions, were the pre-season No. 1 pick in a statewide vote of coaches who submitted their team’s data to this year’s magazine.

Gearing up for 2018 seasons
With classes set to begin next week in the Union City School System, athletic teams at both the high school and middle school are preparing for their respective 2018 fall schedules.
Both the high school volleyball and middle school football teams will open their campaigns on Aug. 9. The Lady Tornadoes, hoping to build off last year’s first-ever state tournament trip, will play at Westview. UC’s first home match will be Aug. 13 against Fulton County, Ky.
UCMS will play its first football game of the year Aug. 9 at Mayfield. The Jr. Twisters won’t play at home until Aug. 30 when Northview pays a visit to War Memorial Stadium.
The UCHS golf team and middle school softball squad will both begin play Aug. 13.
A match vs. McKenzie at Carroll Lake Golf Club is first up for the Purple and Gold linksters, while the MS softball team has a home date with Milan to begin its season.
The Union City High School cross country teams have their inaugural meet of the fall slated for Aug. 14 at Dresden.
