Paris, Tenn.—With ongoing construction at Henry County High School, the main entrance has been moved and drop-off and pick up routes for school buses and cars has been moved. While construction is ongoing, the temporary entrance will be at E Building across from the field house.
The high school renovation will provide increased security for the permanent entrance, updated library, expanded cafeteria space and more.
High School Principal Michele Webb distributed an email to all parents outlining the changes and an open house will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, August 2. First day of school is Friday.
The following is the email sent by Webb to parents which outlines changes to the entrance, new morning procedures, procedures for the first day of school and bus information.
“CONSTRUCTION: As you likely know, HCHS is a beginning a renovation process. We are very excited about this, as we will gain air conditioning in Gamlin Gym, safer entrance into the building, a new counseling office space, locker room facilities for spring sports, an updated library, and many more projects. Beginning this week, the front entrance can no longer be accessed. What does that mean for parents and students?
**The Main Entrance of HCHS will be at E Building, across from the field house. Parents/Visitors to campus should enter here.
**Bus drop off and pick up will relocate to the A (typically teacher parking) lot on S. Wilson Street.
**Car Riders should be dropped off and picked up in C (tennis court) parking lot. For safety and congestion purposes, please do NOT use the A lot or the Fieldhouse “strip” to drop off students or pick them up.
**If you are a football attender, we will not have our new visitor bleachers in for the first scrimmages. Though we will move in some temporary bleachers, please help welcome our guests to campus if they need to sit on the home side as well.
We appreciate your patience and understanding during the construction process.
OPEN HOUSE:
Open House will be held on Thursday, August 2nd, from 5-6:30 pm. The E Building entrance should be used. Rising 10th grade parents and students are encouraged to attend. Parent information sessions, especially for rising 10th grade and transfer parents and students, will be available in the Little Theater at 5 pm and 5:45 pm that evening. Upperclassmen are welcome to come find their classrooms during that time. Due to construction and teacher inservice, this is the only time available between now and school beginning where students will have access to the hallways. Patriot Place
Bookstore will be open during Open House for those of you who may want to pick up some new Patriot gear!
NEW MORNING PROCEDURES: Beginning this year, students who arrive at school prior to 7:30 will be required to report to Patriot XL in the HCHS Library. Buses will not arrive before 7:30 am. Students arriving between 7:30-7:45 am will report to the cafeteria (the gym is currently closed due to construction). Students arriving between 7:45-8:00 am may report to the cafeteria or may enter at E Building. Breakfast will continue being served (for free) to students in the cafeteria and E atrium each morning.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL:
The first day of school will be Friday, August 3rd, from 8:00 until 11:30 am. Attendance does count and all classes will be attended that day on an abbreviated schedule. All students are to report to their homeroom classes upon arrival. Homeroom lists will be posted on E building doors no later than the afternoon on Tuesday, 7/31. Students who are scheduled for 1st/2nd block TCAT or JSCC off-campus classes should report to HCHS at 8am on August 3rd. The first full day of school will beMonday, August 6th, from 8:00am-3:15 pm.
BUS INFORMATION: Most students will ride the same buses they rode last year. If you have moved or need bus information, please contact the Transportation Department at 642-5523 BEFORE the first day of school. If your child might forget the bus number, please make sure to write it down, along with your contact information. We often have stragglers here on the first day who don’t know what bus to ride or how to contact a parent. Though we have information in our computer, it still helps to make sure they are aware of all of this information.
