Over 4,000 Pounds Of Asian Carp Removed From Kentucky Lake

Over 4,000 pounds of Asian Carp was removed from Kentucky Lake last week by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife during a netting project.
Western Kentucky Fisheries has released a summary of totals and where they were caught. The large majority were Silver Carp and the highest amount was netted at Pisgah Bay in Kuttawa, Ky.
Totals are: 1,653 pounds caught at Pisgah; 1,388 pounds caught at Little Bear; 646 caught at Jonathan Creek and 259 caught at Blood River.
According to Kentucky Fish and Wildlife, standardized sampling is important as it supplements Asian Carp data collected from the commercial fishery. The sampling through different seasons and years allows them to estimate population characteristics of fish species over time.
Asian Carp are predatory, causing serious damage to native fish populations. They also are thought to lower water quality.
Other fish species were caught in the nets, but were released.
