Camden, Tenn.—In what is one of the largest drug seizures and arrests ever in Benton County, Sheriff’s Deputies on Thursday evening arrested two people who were bringing large amounts of meth ‘ice’ into the county. One of the subjects arrested was also wanted by Missouri authorities.
Deputies seized a total of 1.75 pounds of ice with an estimated street value of over $70,000. The couple also was in possession of over $5,000 in drug proceeds.
Arrested were: Michael Jackson Riley, age 52, of Darden, and Angela Cheryl Smith, age 41, of Camden. Both are charged with possession of meth/ice with intent to sell, tampering with evidence, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Riley was wanted in Missouri, also.
Deputies received information that two subjects were supposed to come into Benton County with large amounts of ice. Ice is the purest form of meth.
Chief Deputy Jason Lowery, Investigator Lt. Ricky Pafford, Investigator Josh Hedge and K9 Officer Shaun Gary and his K9 Zorro set up in an area where it was believed the subjects would be driving through.
Deputies spotted the vehicle northbound on Birdsong Road. When deputies initiated the traffic stop, the vehicle then turned onto Palmer Road.
The two are being held at the Benton County Jail on $100,000 bond.
Sheriff Kenny Christopher said, “I am beyond pleased with all of the officers and their hard work. The long hours that our department put into these operations are to help keep these illegal drugs off the street and away from our kids. This is a hefty amount of drugs that would have impacted many lives. We will continue our war against drugs. I’ve said it before if you’re dealing drugs in our county it is just a matter of time before we find you.”
