Paris, Tenn.—Upon the request of Henry County 911 Board Chairman John Etheridge, a study team was formed to evaluate the dispatch systems in other communities with an eye to possibly improving the local system.
The 911 Board met in special session late Monday afternoon to approve the final figures for the 2017-2018l budget and discussed formation of the study team at the close of the session.
Etheridge said, “There might be an opportunity for us to improve our system” with visits to other communities.
He appointed Sheriff Monte Belew, Paris Police Chief Chuck Elizondo, 911 Director Mark Archer, 911 IT Manager Chad Howard, Paris Fire Chief Michael Williams and EMA Director Ron Watkins.
Belew and Elizondo agreed with the plan. Belew said, “I think a study group is a wonderful idea. We can see how others do it” and possibly use that to improve the local system. Elizondo said, “I think that would be best for the community. Overall, I think we’ve reached a plateau and we can always look to make our system more efficient.
On the budget, the board approved the income of $496,112.45, which was $24,429 over budget; and expenses of $754,876.98. With $1,026,111 budgeted, that left net income of -$271,234.02.
Etheridge noted, “We had planned to be in the red this year, so that’s no surprise to the board. We will be in the red next year and the cash flow is better than the net income indicates.”
