By Shannon McFarlin WENK/WTPR News Director
Buchanan, Tenn.—Several people, including families, were on hand this morning to witness the replicas of the Nina and Pinta ships move through the Paris Landing area on their way to Grand Rivers, Ky., where they will be docked for public viewing and tours over the weekend.
Several people brought picnic lunches at both Paris Landing State Park and Gray’s Landing to enjoy their time while waiting for the ships to pass under the Ned McWherter Bridge. The ships were right on time, with the Captain saying last night the ships should arrive from 11 a.m. to noon. The ships came under the bridge around 11:10 a.m.
Several private boats were traveling along beside the historic replicas.

The Nina and Pinta will be arriving at Grand Rivers at 3 p.m. today (Thursday). The ships will be docked at Green Turtle Bay Resort, 263 Green Turtle Bay Drive, until their departure early Monday morning July 30.

The ships are open to the general public Friday, July 20, starting at 9 a.m. While in port, the general public is invited to visit the ships for a walk-aboard, self-guided tour. Admission charge $8.50 for adults, $7.50 seniors and $6.50 for students five through 16. Children four and under are free. The ships will be open every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. No reservations necessary.
The ships are sponsored by The Columbus Foundation.
