TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Bethel University Bass Team heads to the 2018 Bassmasters College World Championship in Tahlequah, Oklahoma with a number one ranking in their pocket. The Bass Cats are ranked number one in the two year rankings by BassRankings.com.
BassRankings.com ranks both professional Anglers and Collegiate Anglers. College teams are also ranked by the organization on both a year and a two year rankings program. The rankings are based on individual performance as well as team performances.
The Bethel team won the Cabela’s Collegiate National Championship just over a month ago on Pickwick Lake in Florence, Alabama and was crowned the ACA School of the year at Florence during the championship, a feat that had never been accomplished in collegiate fishing.
Bethel traveled to Shreveport, Louisiana the week after winning the Collegiate Championship to compete in the FLW College National Championship. The Cats walked away with a second place finish just behind Louisiana Monroe in that tournament.
This week the Bethel squad is in Oklahoma to compete in the Bassmasters World Championship which is the third major championship in the season for the team. The Bass Cats travel with a record ten boats/twenty Anglers to this year’s Championship. The team broke the record for second year in a row for the amount of boats and student Anglers to qualify for a national championship tournament.
The Bassmasters College World Championship is the third leg of the Triple Crown in College fishing. The Triple Crown includes the Cabela’s Collegiate National Championship, The Fishing Worldwide League (FLW), and The Bassmasters College World Championship. The Association of College Anglers (ACA) awards the top college Bass Team in The nation each year for their overall performance in tournament angling.
“We are so very proud of all of our accomplishments this year by our team,” said Coach Mason. “The team has had a phenomenal season this year and to have ten teams in the Bassmasters championship is something that may not be repeated for a long time,” he added.
Side note:
The Bassmasters High School and Junior High School National Championship will once again return to Carroll County and Henry County the first week of August. The High School tournament will be held on Kentucky Lake out of Paris Landing and the Junior High competition will be held on the Carroll County One Thousand Acre Lake near Huntingdon. All of the Anglers will be on the Bethel campus for a meeting and meal to kick off the National Championship event.
