Paris, Tenn.—A Paris Police Officer required medical treatment after she was struck in the face by a Cottage Grove man during a traffic stop Friday.
Tommy Bauerlien, age 66, of 110 Jim Hunt Road, was charged with aggravated assault, assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and the initial seatbelt violation that prompted the traffic stop. Bauerlien’s bond was set at $25,000.
During the course of the arrest, Bauerlien argued with officers, resisted arrest and pulled the barbs out of his chest after being tazed. Bauerlien was finally subdued with a chemical spray.
According to the report, Bauerlien was stopped on Mineral Wells Ave. because he was not wearing a seatbelt. As Lt. Michael Ramos and Patrol Officer Amber Roaten followed him into a store, Bauerlien refused to go back outside and began cursing the officers.
Outside, Bauerlien continued yelling and Ramos attempted to place handcuffs on him, at which point Bauerlien resisted and Roaten tasered him. After pulling the barbs out of his chest, Bauerlien punched Roaten in the face. Ramos at that point also tasered him, but he again pulled the barbs out.
Ramos pulled his gun and ordered Bauerlien on the ground, which Bauerlien at first ignored and then finally got on the ground, but refused to get on his stomach. At that point, Ramos subdued him with a chemical spray.
Roaten was transported by ambulance to Henry County Medical Center where she was treated. Paris Police Captain Ricky Watson said this morning that Roaten suffered a nose injury that required medical care.
