Dresden, Tenn.—The investigation into the overdose death of an inmate in the Weakley County Jail in April has been turned over to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI).
Danny Joe Boane, age 35, of Martin, died in the facility in early April. He was serving a four-year sentence for aggravated burglary.
Boane was found dead in his cell and the State Medical Examiner recently determined the death was due to an overdose of meth. Investigators said they believed another inmate, who was a jail trustee, stole the drugs from the jail’s evidence room and distributed the drugs in the cellblock.
Weakley County Sheriff’s Captain Randall McGowan said the investigation into Boane’s death was turned over to the TBI.
TBI Public Information Officer Josh DeVine told WENK/WTPR Monday morning there is no update to provide “other than to confirm our investigation remains active and ongoing.”
