Paris and Union City, Tenn.—As the 4th of July nears, Police Chiefs in Paris and Union City are reminding the public that the use of fireworks is prohibited in the city limits.
Paris Chief Chuck Elizondo reminded the public of the wording of the city ordinance: “The manufacture, distribution, sale, storage, possession, use, or discharge of any fireworks is expressly prohibited within the corporate limits of the City of Paris, Tennessee.”
Both Elizondo and Union City Police Chief Perry Barfield noted that anyone violating the ordinances can be cited and their fireworks will be seized.
Barfield and Elizondo noted that the police departments in both cities will be out in force on the 4th of July.
“We will be answering complaints and confiscating fireworks,” Barfield said, “and we will be filing charges, which can mean a $50 fine plus costs.”
Barfield reminded everyone that fireworks “are dangerous and can cause death or serious injuries. We would recommend everyone go to organized fireworks shows done by professionals, like at Discovery Park.”
Violators will be cited and fireworks will be seized.
