Martin, Tenn.—An elderly woman died early Friday morning in a fire at her home near Martin.
Weakley County Firefighters were called to the fire in the 400 block of Earl McNatt Road around 5 a.m. Friday and found the home already fully engulfed in flames.
Fire officials said the fire is believed to have started when a tree fell on the electrical unit at the home. They believed the woman was asleep in her recliner when the fire started and was already deceased before the first responders were able to enter the home.
Several fire departments from the area assisted and it took some four hours to extinguish the fire. Fire departments providing mutual aid were from Latham, Palmersville, South Fulton, Water Valley and Cuba, Ky.
The name of the 88-year-old woman who died in the fire has not been released.
