Storm Causes Outages For Union City Energy Authority Customers

Union City, Tenn.—Last night’s storm caused several storm-related outages for the Union City Energy Authority.

Authority Manager Jerry Bailey said the broken tree limbs and damaged lines on the east side of Union City caused two circuits to trip out. Most of that area was restored within 90 minutes, he said.

A large tree fell across a power line on Pleasant Valley Road during the storm and crews worked for some 2 ½ hours, cutting the tree out of the way and replacing equipment on the pole that was damaged by the tree. Bailey said equipment failure caused that outage to be longer than expected when a pole-mounted circuit breaker did not operate properly and had to be bypassed.

During the heaviest part of the storm, some 1,500 UCEA customers were without power, he said. Crews worked during the storm in the pouring rain to restore service as soon as possible.

Bailey said, “UCEA tries to prepare as much as possible to minimize storm damage and regrets the inconvenience to its customers.”
