Paris, Tenn.—Meeting in short session Tuesday, the Paris Board of Public Utilities approved the Fiscal 2019 budget and heard from General Manager Terry Wimberley that the renovation project for BPU headquarters is on schedule.
The budget was presented in detail at last month’s meeting and Wimberley reviewed the highlights for the board Tuesday morning.
In the electrical department, the budget projects a $903,000 positive net income, which is an increase of $100,000 this year. Capital improvements are projected at $863,000, of which $200,000 will involve installation of a transmission line on Hwy. 140 and a lot of upgrades to the automatic metering.
In the water department, projected net income is $310,000, which is up $80,000 from this year. On the capital side, $195,000 is projected which will include the major expense of backhoe replacement. Capital expenses in the water department will be lower than this year.
In the wastewater department, projected income is $205,000, which is around the same as the $207,000 net income this year. Capital projects are projected at $14M, which will include continuation of the wastewater plant improvements that are ongoing and will include projects on Jones Bend Rd. and the Clifty Creek Basin.
Wimberley reported that the first progress report with Searcy Builders of Union City for the renovation of the BPU main office and headquarters is positive, with Searcy saying the project is on schedule to be completed in mid-November.
At the meeting’s outset, the board was reorganized and David Flowers was re-elected President, with Ralph Anderson Vice-President.
