Murray Council, Fiscal Court Okay Grant Application For 641 Completion

Murray, Ky.—At a special joint meeting the Murray City Council and Fiscal Court, both panels voted unanimously to support a federal grant application that if received will fully complete the 641 South four lane to the state line.
In a Facebook post, Councilman Wesley Bolin said, “We both approved resolutions to allocate $500,000 each in pursuit of a $25 million federal BUILD grant. If received, the grant money will fully complete the four laning of 641, from the city limits to the state line.”

Bolin said, “The grant will be submitted on July 19th and grant winners will be notified on December 18th. State government will contribute $1 million in matching funds to the project, but no local money will be spent unless we successfully receive the grant. Money for the project will be obligated by September 2020, and all funds must be paid out by September of 2025. County government will be administering the grant if received.”
State funds are already designated to complete a four lane section from the city limits to Clarks River, and this grant would complete the remaining 5.7 miles of the project.
