Paris, Tenn.—The basketball games were happening even before the ribbon-cutting at the new basketball courts at Ogburn Park in Paris on Wednesday evening and continued after the ceremonies were over.

Officials with the city of Paris and the Paris-Henry Co. Chamber of Commerce were on hand for the ribbon-cutting, along with numerous children and adults from the neighborhood who were already enjoying the new courts.

Paris Police Chief Chuck Elizondo and members of the Paris Fire Department grilled hot dogs which were served to everyone for free.

The basketball courts replace courts that were rapidly deteriorating and have a new look, with three sides of black fencing and a more open air atmosphere. New LED lights also were installed earlier Wednesday to accommodate night games.

Parks and Recreation Director Tony Lawrence said the new LED lights will be a great addition to Ogburn Park and City Manager Kim Foster said the improvements are a great investment for the city.

Parks Board Member Ricky Searcey thanked the city for the improvements, which he said is “just the beginning of what Ogburn Park can be again.”
