Paris, Tenn.—Four major site plans for the upcoming Henry County High School building project were approved Thursday night by the Paris Municipal Regional Planning Commission, contingent on a final review of drainage concerns.
The site plans had been tabled at the May meeting over the same concerns, especially involving the plan for the front entrance of the high school. The site plan proposes a 4,130 square foot addition to the front of the existing building. The front canopy will be removed and the entire area will be renovated.
Economic Development Director Jennifer Morris noted the drainage from this addition could impact some of the work that has been done by the city on the north end of the TCAT campus across the street.
Also deferred at the May meeting was the site plan for the Spring Sports Locker Room, which will be a 2,581 square foot building to be erected between the existing baseball and softball field. Additional parking is proposed for the structure. The planning commission was concerned with stormwater runoff and detention.
Planners were provided with reports from the BPU, Paris Public Works, and Paris Fire Department which city staff viewed positively. “But we would like one more final review of the drainage issue,” Morris said, “and the fire department still has to review whether a hydrant is necessary” at the front entrance.
The other two football site plans involve the proposed Band Building, a 7,992 squae foot stand-alone building at the end of the existing parking area; and a football fieldhouse addition, which will be a 1,750 square foot addition to each end of the existing fieldhouse.
Planners approved the site plans with the drainage contingency. “If we o.k. these tonight,” Morris said, “the contractors could get ready without having to hold them up another month.”
Terry Drumwright of TLM Associates said, “That would be perfectly o.k. with us.”
In other business during Thursday night’s meeting:
–Planners approved a major site plan for Dr. James Neal’s veterinary clinic at 2101 East Wood St. He is proposing an addition to his building. The total parking would involve 22 spaces.
