Buchanan, Tenn.—A nine-year-old boy is reportedly in stable condition at Vanderbilt Medical Center after he suffered a gunshot wound Saturday afternoon.

Henry County Sheriff Monte Belew told WENK/WTPR that the sheriff’s office has been checking on the condition of the boy throughout the day.
Deputies were called to 300 Eagle Creek Drive around noon Saturday on a call that a boy had been shot in the stomach. When deputies arrived, they assisted the Henry County EMS in transporting the boy and his father to Paris Landing State Park.

The Vanderbilt Life Flight air ambulance landed at the park and transported the boy to Vanderbilt.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the father and son were shooting targets when the gun accidentally discharged. According to a press release, no foul play is suspected.

The incident is still under investigation by the Henry Co. Sheriff’s Office and Tennessee Department of Childrens’ Services.
