2018 Henry County Relay For Life Off To Great Start

Paris, Tenn.—Despite the heat, the cancer survivors led the way around the track to kick of the 2018 Henry County Relay for Life Friday night.

Relay Co-Chair Tracey Beasley presented five “Our Hero” Awards to local educators: Paula Boyd, Evan Twilbeck, Charlotte Lantrip, Greg Lassiter and James Counce. “They mentors and heroes to a lot of our young people,” Beasley said.

The Gary Powley—Voice of Relay—Award was given to WENK/WTPR News Director Shannon McFarlin. Powley was a former long-time News Director and announcer at WTPR and was a huge supporter of Relay. Powley died in 2005. McFarlin said she was honored to receive the award, especially since it is named in honor of Powley.

During opening ceremonies, Rev. Erik Davis led the invocation and Boy Scout Troop 22 presented the colors and the Pledge of Allegiance.

During the survivors’ and caregivers’ laps, Henry County Juvenile Court Judge Vicki Snyder and Molly Jackson read the names of survivors.

The totals raised and award winners for raising the most money for Relay will be posted Saturday.
