Springville, Tenn.–The Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge is excited to welcome once again its popular program in the Refuge Discovery Series featuring visiting critters from the LBL Nature Station.
“Rare Encounters” is a program that will feature wildlife in this area that may not be so commonly encountered such as an Alligator Snapping Turtle, American Kestrel and the Northern Pine Snake. The program begins at 1 pm on Saturday, June 9th at the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center located at 1371 Wildlife Drive in Springville. Entrance to the Visitor Center and the program are free to the public.
The Refuge Visitor Center is open Monday – Saturday from 8:00-4:00 pm. While there we encourage folks to see nesting osprey, barn swallows, eastern bluebirds, tree swallows, purple martins, northern mockingbirds and many other birds present off the back patio.
During your visit to the refuge, you also are invited to take a stroll along the newest hiking trail, just adjacent to the Visitor Center. The Nature Discovery trail winds along a half mile of peaceful woods and shoreline of Kentucky Lake. Along the trail are stations called “Animal Olympics” that encourage young visitors to learn about wildlife while exercising like them. However, with the recent rainy weather, bug spray is encouraged.
