Huntingdon, Tenn.—A Huntingdon woman was indicted by the Carroll County Grand Jury this week on charges of aggravated child abuse and neglect.
Cassie Lee Scales, age 22, Drew Court, Huntingdon, is accused of leaving a two-year old child in the bedroom of a vacant apartment on January 12 at 11:30 p.m. The bedroom door was closed and the child could not get out of the room and reportedly was alone for 24 hours.
According to the Huntingdon Police report, Scales phoned a neighbor to check on the child, however, the neighbor could not enter because of a dog in the apartment. The neighbor phoned the police, who found the child in the floor with a soiled diaper.
The child was transported to the local hospital for observation and then placed in foster care under an emergency placement by the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services. A three-month– old child was also placed in foster care.
