Springville, Tenn.–Looking for something fun to do for free with your family this Memorial Day weekend? Join us on Saturday, May 26th from 1 to 2:30 pm at the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center located at 1371 Wildlife Drive in Springville, as they present “Amphibian Fun and Fairy Houses.
Lauren Posego will give a short, family friendly program on our local amphibians, with a short walk to search for specimens along the Nature Discovery Trail. Participants will get practical experience on where to look for and how to identify a few amphibians in your back yard. Stay for the fun as they construct “fairy houses” to place outside to attract amphibians for easier viewing. For those children who wish, we invite them to come dressed as a fairy or amphibian for the program.
The Friends of Tennessee NWR will have hotdogs lunches available to sell to those visiting the refuge beginning around noon. So why not come for an outdoor picnic lunch on the refuge visitor center back patio then stay for the program?
In addition, the refuge will have their popular “Refuge Discovery Backpacks” and activity booklet to check out so kids can earn their Jr. Refuge Manager badges. Backpacks contain items such as a butterfly net, fish net, binoculars, bug viewers, insect collectors, magnifying glasses and field guides that will help you in your adventures.
Whereas the refuge visitor center is always open Monday – Saturday from 8:00 – 4:00 pm, please note the Amphibian Fun and Fairy House program is only from 1:00 – 2:30 pm.Entry to the event and to the visitor center is free.
