Decatur Co. Deputy Credited With Saving Lives

Parsons, Tenn.—A Decatur County Sheriff’s deputy is credited with saving the lives of a young brother and sister—at the risk of his own safety.

According to an article in the Tennessee River Valley News, brother and sister Anna and Tyler Rosson of Parsons were returning home Thursday when the truck they were in started having electrical problems.

The truck lost power and the brakes stopped responding while they were driving up one of the steepest hills in Decatur Co., just off of Hwy. 641. Their truck started rolling backwards, down the hill, gathering speed.

Deputy Donnell Kirklin looked up the hill and saw the truck rolling backwards. According to the article he knew he would have to act fast to help avoid a collision because three eighteen wheelers were coming up the highway.

Deputy Kirklin, without hesitation, put himself in the path of the Rosson’s truck, allowing the truck to hit him and to keeping it from rolling onto the busy highway. The Rosson’s mother, Melanie Rosson said, “You can call it coincidence or luck. I call it a blessing from God.”
